About Us

The Liberal Democrat Friends of Cycling, Walking and Wheeling (LDFoCWW) is an Affiliate Organisation (AO) of the Liberal Democrats.

Our mission is to make the United Kingdom a safer and more inclusive place to cycle, walk or wheel; “wheeling” is a relatively new term and generally refers to any non-bicycle based form of personal mobility aid, including (but not limited to) scooters, wheelchairs, hand-cycles and mobility scooters.

Our organisation seeks to increase the number and proportion of journeys involving any mode of active travel and eliminate barriers to participation, including those based on age, disability, sexual orientation, sex, gender identity, race, religion, belief, socio-economic status or any combination of such characteristics.

We seek to raise awareness of these issues among Liberal Democrats and integrate these goals into all national and local Liberal Democrat actions and policies.

The Objects of LDFoCWW include:

  • working with others, both within the Liberal Democrats and more widely across society, to reduce the number of people injured or killed while walking, cycling or wheeling, and increase the proportion of journeys made involving modes of active travel;
  • working locally, regionally, nationally and internationally to address all issues appropriate to making active travel safer and more inclusive and improving the integration of active travel within transport networks;
  • assisting Liberal Democrat councillors to implement and showcase policies that promote walking, wheeling and cycling, improve inclusion and public safety and improve integration of active travel modes within local transport networks;

Our membership includes Liberal Democrat campaigners, councillors and Parliamentarians from across the UK and our Honorary President is Olly Glover MP, Liberal Democrat MP for Didcot & Wantage and transport spokesperson.
